Toner builds up on or sticks to these areas on the drum and creates black dots on the printed pages. Dots are typically caused by foreign material inside the machine (for example, paper dust, glue from labels or envelopes, paper clips, staples) sticking to or damaging the surface of the drum. Review the User Setting List and determine if the dots are spaced at specific intervals (3.7 inches or 1.5 inches) OR are the dots randomly spaced on the page. If the print quality of the User Settings List is not blurry or smeared and there are NO dots or smudges, the machine appears to be printing correctly. If the print quality of the User Settings List is not blurry or smeared BUT there ARE dots or smudges continue to. Print the User Settings List by pressing MENU, 6 (Print Reports), 4 (User Settings) and START.
